Welcome to the Istanbul Colloquium: June 7 to 9 2015

Napoleon Bonaparte apparently said: "If the whole world was one country Istanbul would be
its capital". I urge you to attend the CMI Colloquium in Istanbul and see for yourself whether
he was correct.

I was fortunate to visit Istanbul (unrelated to CMI, a few years ago) and found it to be a
wonderful tourist destination. I am sure CMI delegates will all experience the same degree of
awe and excitement next June, as I did from my first visit.

The Turkish Maritime Law Association, which underwent a substantial revival in its contacts
with the CMI a few years ago has been extremely diligent in the work it has done with John
Hare to put together what promises to be the usual high calibre CMI scholastic event as well
as a wonderful social programme to introduce you to the delights of Istanbul, such as Hagia
Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar. I also urge you to leave time to visit as least
one outlying region and could not recommend more highly the Ruins of Ephesus.

I look forward to seeing you in Istanbul in June.

Stuart Hetherington
